**President Biden's Address to the Nation on July 24, 2024**
Tonight, I speak to you from the Oval Office, surrounded by the legacies of great American leaders. Thomas Jefferson, George Washington, Abraham Lincoln, Franklin Roosevelt—each shaped our nation with enduring wisdom. But tonight, I speak not as a president clinging to power, but as a patriot deeply committed to our democracy.
Serving as your president has been the honor of my life. Yet, the defense of our democracy transcends any personal ambition or title. This sacred duty is about you, your families, and our collective future. It's about reaffirming the principles that define us as a nation—honesty, decency, respect, freedom, justice, and democracy itself.
We stand at a pivotal moment where America must choose its path—forward or backward, hope or hate, unity or division. Can we see those who differ from us not as adversaries, but as fellow Americans? Does character still matter in public life?
In the coming months, I will focus on my presidential duties—lowering costs for families, strengthening our economy, defending civil rights, combating extremism, addressing gun violence, tackling climate change, advancing healthcare, and ensuring our national security.
We've achieved much together—record job creation, economic growth, historic climate and healthcare reforms, and securing our borders. Yet, our work is not done. The future of our republic depends on our collective resolve to uphold its ideals.
As the election approaches, I trust in Vice President Kamala Harris's leadership and ask you, the American people, to choose wisely. Remember the words of Benjamin Franklin: "A republic, if you can keep it." The responsibility to preserve our republic now rests in your hands.
It has been my privilege to serve this nation for over five decades—from humble beginnin
gs to the presidency. America's promise lies in our unity, our resilience, and our unwavering belief in our shared destiny.
We are the United States of America—a beacon of hope and possibility. Let us preserve our democracy, guided by faith in each other and the enduring ideals that define us. Together, there is no challenge we cannot overcome.
God bless you all, and may God protect our troops. Thank you.
